Students invited to: HEAT 2017 ‘Leadership – Opportunities to Excellence’

Hull Education and Training (HEAT) is our local annual medical education conference. Now in its sixth year, with many successful events to build on, HEAT is hosted by Medical Education at Hull Royal Infirmary, and the Hull Institute for Learning and Simulation (HILS). The photos in this post were taken at last year’s HEAT event.

The HEAT 2017 team would like to invite healthcare students (including those from HYMS and Nursing) to this year’s event, and to submit an abstract if they wish. Academic and clinical tutors are also most welcome to attend. Please note, as the conference falls on a Friday, any student who would like to attend but has teaching scheduled on the day, must complete a leave of absence request as soon as possible.

HEAT 2017: Friday 5 May 2017

HEAT 2017 will be held on Friday 5 May 2017 at the Medical Education Centre, Hull Royal Infirmary. It is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. This year’s theme is ‘Leadership – Opportunities to Excellence’. Leadership is an important topic in healthcare and something outside of curriculum-based teaching with which students can engage.

The day will include presentations by external speakers and staff from the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (HEY). There will also be workshops, a simulation session, and award presentations to recognise the outstanding work of educational supervisors and junior doctors. Please see the provisional programme at the end of this post for further details.

Call for abstracts: deadline Thursday 13 April 2017

Abstract submissions are invited for posters on a range of topics related to leadership, quality improvement, change management, or medical education. This is an excellent opportunity for students to present their work at an important local event. It is also an ideal event if it is your first time presenting a poster.

Any Year 3 students currently undertaking their quality improvement projects might want to consider taking this opportunity to present their hard work. There will be an award for the best poster abstract. The closing date for abstract submissions is Thursday 13 April, and details and a submission form have been circulated via email to MB BS and PA students.

Hope to see some of you at HEAT 2017! To book your free place, or for further information, please email keira.gilchrist-austin@hey.nhs.uk
